What to expect at your first visit

Starting care with a new specialist can feel like a lot. Here's a clear look at how to prepare and what your first appointment will involve, so you can walk in feeling ready instead of anxious.

What to bring

Photo ID and insurance card

Bring both, even if we've already verified your coverage over the phone.

A list of current medications

Include dosages and how often you take them — or just bring the bottles.

Prior records, labs, and imaging

Any past bloodwork, X-rays, or MRIs related to your joint or autoimmune symptoms help us avoid repeating tests. If you don't have copies, call our office and we can help arrange to have your records faxed or emailed over from your previous provider.

A referral, if required

Check with your insurance — some plans require a referral from your primary care doctor.

Your questions, written down

It's easy to forget things in the moment. Jot down what's been bothering you and what you want to ask.

How your visit will go

  1. Check-in and paperwork

If you haven't completed new-patient forms ahead of time, plan to arrive a little early to fill them out.

  2. Your history, in detail

Dr. Jaleel will ask about your symptoms, when they started, your medical history, and any family history of autoimmune or joint conditions.

  3. A hands-on joint exam

A physical examination of the affected joints and muscles — wearing comfortable clothing makes this easier.

  4. Diagnosis and a plan

We'll talk through what's going on and lay out a personalized plan, which may include lab work, imaging, or starting treatment.

  5. Questions and next steps

Time to ask anything that's on your mind, and we'll schedule any follow-up before you leave.

Good to know

First visits typically take longer than follow-up appointments, since we're getting the full picture of your health for the first time. If anything changes or you need to reschedule, just call 484-971-4071. Curious about coverage first? Visit our insurance and billing page.
